HISTORY
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is of Canadian origin, where they were bred to lure out waterfowl. While their exact heritage is uncertain, people draw connections between this breed and the Cocker Spaniel, Golden Retriever, Irish Setter, and a number of other breeds as possible grandfathers. The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever was first accepted into the AKC in 2003.

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a friendly and loving companion dog that is also smart, aware, playful, but not hyper. This breed grows a deep attachment to their family, but does not take to new people too easily, although you would not classify them as a shy breed. They love to run around, and demand a fair amount of exercise, otherwise they may become depressed and destructive. They are great with kids, as well as other pets, and are not barkers either..
Color
The Toller comes in shades of red and orange uniform over the body. They can also have white markings on the feet, face, chest, and the tip of the tail.

Appearance
The Toller is a athletically built, compact dog that has a well defined musculature and a deep chest. Their head is reminiscent of a Labrador, but more angular like a fox. Their ears are set high atop their head and hang down. Their tail is slightly sloped, and their coat is 100% water resistant, ranging between straight to wavy.
