About this product
1. Can this dog food be fed to puppies?
Answer
Yes, it can. However, Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Hydrolyzed Protein HP Dry Dog Food is specially formulated to meet the nutritional needs of adult dogs with food sensitivities or allergies. It may not be the best option for puppies because they have different nutritional requirements than adult dogs, and their digestive systems are still developing. Therefore, it is best to consult with a veterinarian to determine the appropriate diet for your puppy based on its age, breed, weight, and health status.
2. Can this dog food be fed to pregnant or nursing dogs without any side effects?
Answer
Yes, it can be fed to them without causing harm. However, it is not specifically formulated for pregnant or nursing dogs, and may not provide the optimal nutritional requirements that they need during this critical stage of their life. Pregnant and nursing dogs have higher nutrient requirements than adult dogs, as they need to support the growth and development of their puppies.
3. Can this dog food be fed to dogs with kidney disease?
Answer
Yes, it can. This is because hydrolyzed protein diets can be beneficial for dogs with food sensitivities, as the hydrolysis process breaks down the protein into smaller peptides that are less likely to trigger an immune response. These diets may also be helpful in managing certain kidney conditions because they can be formulated to have a reduced protein content and a specific amino acid profile, which can help reduce the workload on the kidneys.
4. Can this dog food aid dogs with diabetes?
Answer
Dogs with diabetes may not be the ideal candidates for Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Hydrolyzed Protein HP Dry Dog Food because it is not designed with them in consideration. Dogs with diabetes need a diet that promotes their general health while managing their blood glucose levels. A steady and balanced dose of carbs, protein, and fat is necessary for dogs with diabetes.
5. How much should I feed my dog at once?
Answer
In general, the feeding guidelines for this food recommend feeding an appropriate amount divided into multiple meals per day. The exact amount to feed your dog will vary based on their individual needs and should be determined in consultation with your veterinarian.
6. Can I give my dog treats while feeding them this dog food?
Answer
It is not usually advised to give dogs treats when you are feeding them prescription food. If you are feeding your dog Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Hydrolyzed Protein HP Dry Dog Food for a specific health condition, it is important to talk to your veterinarian before giving your dog any treats. This is because some dogs may have food sensitivities or allergies that could be triggered by certain types of treats. Additionally, some treats may contain ingredients that could interfere with the therapeutic effects of the prescription diet.
7. Are there any artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors in this dog food?
Answer
Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Hydrolyzed Protein HP Dry Dog Food does not contain any artificial colors or flavors. However, it contains some artificial preservatives, such as BHA and BHT. BHA and BHT are commonly used as preservatives in pet foods to help maintain the quality and freshness of the prescription food. They are generally recognized as safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are usually used in many pet food products.
8. Is this dog food made in the USA?
Answer
Manufacturing facilities for Royal Canin can be found in a number of nations, including the USA, Canada, France, Brazil, and others. The exact product and the area in which it is sold may affect where Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Dog Food is produced.
9. What quality control measures does Royal Canin use for this dog food?
Answer
Royal Canin has a comprehensive quality control program for their Hydrolyzed Protein Dog Food, which includes strict ingredient sourcing, adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and rigorous testing and analysis throughout the production process. They source their ingredients from reputable suppliers and perform extensive testing to ensure their quality and safety. Their manufacturing processes adhere to strict quality and safety standards to ensure consistent product quality. Royal Canin also performs rigorous testing and analysis at various stages of the production process to ensure that their products meet their specifications and are free from contaminants.
10. How should I store this dog food?
Answer
Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Dog Food should be kept in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and moisture in order to preserve its quality and freshness. To avoid exposure to air, which might lead to the food becoming stale and losing its nutritional content, it is crucial to store the dog food in its original packaging or in an airtight container.

Resolved most GI issues for my 10 yo Golden
This food took away the melena in stools, reduced the number of bowel movement from 4-5 to 3 per day, which was Jacks norm before the Gi issues started. He really likes the food, which makes this transition easier. I also got the canned to give as treats or stuff into a nylabone since this diet is so strict and all other foods and treats have been taken away. Overall a big positive although not 100% resolution. Oh, and the poops are all different colors, which throws me off, but again, seems better and havent really gotten soft stools much. One here and there.
