About this product
1. Is This Cat Food Recommended for Cats of All Ages?
Answer
No, the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO Dry Cat Food is not recommended for cats of all ages.
2. How Does Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO Dry Cat Food Work to Support Urinary Health in Cats?
Answer
Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO Dry Cat Food is formulated to help support urinary health in cats by helping to reduce the risk of urinary crystal and stone formation. The food contains a precise blend of ingredients that help promote a healthy urinary environment by controlling the pH of the urine. The urine pH can affect the formation of crystals and stones in the urinary tract, so maintaining an appropriate urinary pH is important for preventing urinary tract issues.
3. How Can I Help My Cat Recover From Struvite Stones?
Answer
If your cat has been diagnosed with struvite stones, there are several things you can do to help them recover. The first step is to work with your veterinarian to develop a treatment plan, which may include a prescription diet such as Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO Dry Cat Food, medication to manage pain and inflammation, and possibly surgery to remove the stones if they are large or causing obstruction. Additionally, it is important to ensure that your cat is drinking plenty of water to help flush out the urinary tract and prevent the formation of new stones.
4. Can Struvite Stones in Cats Recur After Treatment?
Answer
Yes, struvite stones in cats can recur after treatment. In fact, up to 40% of cats may experience a recurrence of struvite stones within 1 to 2 years after treatment. This is because cats with a history of struvite stones may be predisposed to developing them again.
5. What Ingredients Are Included in This Cat Food?
Answer
The main ingredients of this dish are chicken by-product meal, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, maize, chicken fat, natural flavors, and fish oil. It also includes a special combination of minerals, such as calcium sulfate, to lessen the development of urinary crystals and stones.
6. Is This Cat Food Appropriate for Cats With Food Allergies or Sensitivities?
Answer
Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO Dry Cat Food is formulated with specific ingredients to support urinary health in cats, but it may not be appropriate for cats with food allergies or sensitivities. This food contains several common allergens, such as chicken and corn, which can trigger allergic reactions in some cats.
7. Can This Cat Food Be Used in Conjunction With Other Urinary Tract Health Treatments?
Answer
Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO Dry Cat Food can be used with other urinary tract health treatments as your veterinarian recommends. In fact, a multimodal approach to managing urinary tract issues is often recommended, which may include a combination of prescription diets, medication, and other interventions.
8. Can This Cat Food Be Fed to Multiple Cats in a Household?
Answer
Yes, it can. But Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO Dry Cat Food is specifically formulated for cats with urinary tract issues, so it is generally recommended to feed this food only to the cat diagnosed with urinary tract issues and has been prescribed this diet by a veterinarian.
9. Is Surgery Necessary to Remove Struvite Stones in Cats?
Answer
In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove struvite stones in cats, especially if the stones are large or cause blockages in the urinary tract. However, in many cases, struvite stones can be dissolved or managed through a combination of dietary management, medication, and increased water intake.
10. Can This Cat Food Be Used for the Long-Term Management of Urinary Tract Health Issues?
Answer
Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO Dry Cat Food is formulated to support the urinary tract health of cats with urinary tract issues, and it can be used for the long-term management of these issues under the guidance of a veterinarian. In addition to feeding a prescription diet like Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO, your veterinarian may also recommend other management strategies, such as increased water intake, litter box management, and monitoring for potential health issues or changes in symptoms.
11. Can This Cat Food Help Dissolve Urinary Stones in Cats?
Answer

It increases the amount of urine your cat produces to help dilute excess minerals that can cause crystals and stones. Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology is used to help lower ion concentration in urine, which contributes to stone formation. This formula promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the formation of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. And this specialized nutrition, with a reduced level of magnesium, helps dissolve pure struvite stones and prevent struvite stones from forming. Has kept urinary issues at bay
Our poor 2yr old male feline adoptee had developed a severe bladder obstruction and infection that came on suddenly and required a 3 day hospitalization. He recovered, but the vets advised us that due to the severity, he may need an operation in the future. The operation would not help with the actual problem, but would simply wooden his urethra to allow easier passage of the build-up. Essentially easing the symptoms but not tackling the root cause. Our personal vet advised we put our boy on this special diet, as it will actually prevent the issue itself. We have strictly adhered to it for 6 months with NO further issues and are very happy. So is he, and he loves the food.

Royal Canin SO
I started feeding this food after my male cat had urinary issues and was hospitalized. It has been over a year and he and his brother both eat it. They havent grown tired of it and we have had no further issues. Through Pet care RX it is the cheapest I can find. Some supply issues but not too bad.
